CEC: because of the epidemic situation the number of observers at polling stations could save

Because of the epidemiological situation the number of observers during the current election campaign at polling stations will decrease. This resolution was adopted at the CEC session, the correspondent of BelTA.

CEC Chairman Lidia Yermoshina suggested that during the current election campaign to reduce the number of observers in the main voting day to five, during early voting to three. "It is only the presence. The accreditation of observers does not stop, - noted the head of the CEC. - Just at the time when the polling station opens for voting, the Chairman of the Commission selects by date of submission of documents for accreditation and determines the quantitative composition of the observers. If one of the observers is eliminated, the Commission Chairperson shall call the observer, the next on the list, and invite him to come to the polling station."

She reminded that the Ministry of health has developed recommendations to prevent the spread of respiratory infections (including COVID-19) during the vote in the presidential elections. Among the recommendations is the principle of social distancing in the arrangement of tables and chairs members of the precinct election Commission, places for observers, voters between (minimum distance 1 m).

The changes do not apply to international observers, agents of candidates, members of the house of representatives and members of the Council of Republic, deputies of local Councils, which can be observed in conformity with its status, as well as was media. Journalists at polling stations would be able to attend.

According to 21 July, the CEC had accredited 29 international observers on presidential elections of the Executive Committee of the CIS.

As reported, the House of representatives has appointed the presidential election on 9 August. For the schedule of early voting will be held from 4 to 8 August. The results of the Central election Commission shall sum no later than August 19. The second round, if necessary, is scheduled to be held no later than within two weeks, that is August 23.
