Twice Hero of the Soviet Union

Pavel Yakovlevich Golovachev was born on December 15, 1917 in the village of Koshelevo (now Buda-Koshelevsky district of Gomel region). In 1938, he was sent to the Odessa School of Pilots, from which he graduated in 1940.

The deputy squadron commander of the 9th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Guards, Captain Golovachev conducted 457 combat sorties, personally shot down 31 enemy aircraft in 125 air battles and in group 1.

As a member of the so-called "golden Horde", he was admitted to the Air Force Academy, from which he graduated in 1951.In 1959, he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff. He has mastered many types of jet aircraft.

Being twice Hero of the Soviet Union, he was awarded 2 Orders of Lenin, 6 Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st art., 2 Orders of the Red Star, medals.

In honor of the hero in his homeland – in the village of Koshelevo, a bronze bust is installed. A monument to the Hero was erected in the city of Gomel, a street and the Gomel State Professional Construction Lyceum (former Vocational school No. 56), have his name. A state farm in his homeland in Buda-Koshelevsky district was also named after him. At the Gomel Woodworking Plant, where he began his career, on the building of the former vocational school-56 and on the DOSAAF building memorial plaques were installed. In the town of Gorodok, Lviv region, a memorial plaque was installed on the street named after him.
