VASILY FILIPPOVICH MUKHIN


1917 – 1984
The hero of the USSR
Mukhin Vasily Filippovich was born in the village of Kuntorovka, now the Vetka district of the Gomel region, in a peasant family. In 1936 - 1938 he worked at the Gomselmash plant, the most famous and growing enterprise in the region at that time. He was identified as a planer apprentice to the famous master Vikenty Romanovich Narbutovich - the future Honorary Citizen of the city of Gomel.
The young man turned out to be smart and diligent: here he was accepted into the Komsomol, here he enrolled in the Gomel flying club in a group of pilots and in his free time began to go to classes, studied the PO-2 aircraft, learned to fly on it. Since 1938 in the Red Army. In 1938 he entered the Odessa School of Fighter Pilots, in 1940 he was transferred, and in 1941 he graduated from the Chuguev Military Aviation Pilot School.Since July 1942, Sergeant Mukhin has been in the active army. The fighter pilot Mukhin received his baptism of fire as part of the 192nd Fighter Aviation Regiment near the town of Svatovo, Voroshilovgrad Region. Then there were air battles in the area of Starobelsk, over the station of Tsimlyanskaya and the Manych steppes, in the area of the village of Proletarskaya and the city of Salsk.
He fought on the Southwestern, 2nd Ukrainian fronts. Participant of the battles at the Kursk Bulge, the liberation of Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Austria. By the end of the war, the commander of the guard link Senior Lieutenant V.F.Mukhin made 291 successful combat missions. He participated in 83 air battles, in which he personally shot down 20 enemy aircraft.
On February 23, 1945, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
After the war, he continued to serve in the aviation. In 1948 he graduated from the Higher Officer School of Air Force Navigators. Since 1950, the Guard Lieutenant Colonel V.F.Mukhin retired. He lived in the city of Gomel, was a lecturer at the "Knowledge" society. Since 1964 he has been an honorary citizen of the city of Balti (Moldova). Listed in the Book of Honor of the Gomel Plant of Measuring Instruments.
The memorial plaque was installed in the city of Gomel at the entrance of the plant of measuring instruments (International Street, 49), where V.F. Mukhin.
