The Palace and Park ensemble

Among the museums of the city first by right – Gomel Palace-Park ensemble is one of the oldest in the country, unique in its kind.

Gomel Park two hundred years. According to scientists, is the most successful example of Park construction in Belarus. The Park is located on the steep Bank of the river Sozh in the area of 25 hectares. Among the usual maple, ash and chestnut trees, here you can find Mamutova pine, pyramidal oak and walnut majorski.
The formation of the Park took place from the mid-nineteenth century. From different regions of Russia and from abroad were imported various breeds of trees and bushes, including exotic ones, were used for the breakdown of the alleys. Pearl of Palace-Park ensemble is the Palace of the Rumyantsevs and the Paskeviches, a magnificent monument of Russian classicism of the XVIII -XIX centuries. (architect K. I. Blank, Y. N. Alekseev, I. P. D'yachkov, A. Idzkowski, A. Galonsky, John. Clarke, Yu. M. Felten, etc.).
The construction of the Palace began in 1777, an outstanding military leader of Russia, General-field Marshal P. A. Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky. November 7, 1919, in the Palace building was opened in Gomel Kunsthistorisches Museum.
Currently, on the basis of the Palace and Park complex and the Gomel regional local history Museum was created the state historical-cultural institution "Gomel Palace-Park ensemble". In the Central part of the Palace and the tower recreates the atmosphere of the past of the Palace interior. The magnificent Central hall of the Palace, framed by columns, with alcoves and mezzanines, a Belvedere and a dome.
The Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace is one of the best Museum complexes in the Republic of Belarus, which combines historical exhibits and the magnificent palatial interiors.
Peter and Paul Cathedral - One of the largest religious buildings of Belarus. Built in 1809-1819 years. architect John. Clark in the style of classicism. Cross the majestic architecture of the temple is impressive and two centuries later.
Inside the temple on the left side of the transept, grave of count Rumyantsev, which includes a copy of the sculpture "Goddess of peace" by the Italian master A. Canova.

On the walls there are icons, including the copy of the painting by Italian artist A. Correggio. In 1935-1941 he in the Cathedral housed a historical Museum, 1960-1988 from the planetarium. In 1989, the Council passed the Church. Is currently the main Orthodox Church in Gomel.

The mansion, the so-called "hunting Lodge", was built in 1818-1820. in the Empire style, designed by architect I. Dyachkova as a house for a summer residence of Gravanella Petrovich Rumyantsev. From the 1830s to 1919, the mansion belonged to the family Kruszewski and Lisowski. The last owner of the mansion was Irena Galinska (from Lisowski). Later it housed various government agencies and organizations. From 1997 to 2009 in the mansion was the exposition of the Gomel regional Museum (now the Museum of the Gomel Palace and Park ensemble). Since 2009 it houses the Museum of the history of the city of Gomel.

The chapel-burial vault of the Paskevich princes

Located in the Northern part of the Park. Built in 1889 under the project of academician of architecture N. Chervinsky. Is a sample of the so-called neo-Russian style in architecture with characteristic for this area features. The main attraction of the building is its decoration.

Wonderful colorful facades lend a colorful majolica tiles with plant ornament. Ceramics made by local artisans.

Tomb in the form of a long tunnel with a barrel vault is under the ground. Buried here are eight representatives of the genus Paskevich, among which General-field Marshal I. F. Paskevich and his wife E. A. Paskevich (nee Griboedov).

Church Of The Nativity Of The Mother Of God

At the end of the XIX century, the old peasant cemetery was built the Orthodox Church of the Nativity.
In the postwar period it housed the plant "Mastatstva". Since 1990 the building was transferred Gomel to the Catholic community and have undergone reconstruction.

The Church was christened in honour of the Nativity of the Mother of God.

Gomel Park

Gomel Park has been formed from the end of 1830-ies according to the project of the Polish architect Adam Idzkowski. The riverbed of the ancient river "of Gomiuk" or "Homewk", which fell into the river Sozh, has been transformed into the Swan pond. A harmonious combination in uniform ensemble of the landform, water bodies, greenery, architectural elements, and artistic perfection in dealing with complex compositional and spatial problems can be attributed to the Gomel Park of the best examples of Park construction of its time.
