State Quality Mark instituted in Belarus

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has signed Decree No. 21 to institute the State Quality Mark, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

The document approved the image and description of the mark. It is a red pentagon with a rotated letter K in the center, below the inscription “Belarus”. The five angles of the mark symbolize five elements of quality: safety, environmental friendliness, innovation, technological edge and aesthetics.

The government will determine the procedure for assigning the State Quality Mark and the list of incentives, benefits and preferences that go with it.

The institution of the State Quality Mark is designed to help improve the quality of Belarusian goods and services.

A reminder, the Belarusian State Quality Mark was discussed at a meeting hosted by the head of state on 5 January. Symbolically, it was the first event of the president’s work schedule in 2024, the year that was declared the Year of Quality in Belarus.

Belarus’ State Quality Mark was modelled on the State Quality Mark of the USSR. More than 20 designs were put forward, five of them were shortlisted. The State Quality Mark has a pentagonal shape, just like the Soviet one, but details are different.

“The Soviet quality mark looks impeccable to me. It is minimalistic. I think this is a good design that we should not scrap. It should not be ostentatious. Neither the colors nor the designs should overshadow the mark itself,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The first recipients of the State Quality Mark will be announced in Belarus at the end of this year.
