Nikolai Arsentievich Nevsky was born in Gomel. His father was a military doctor, he served in one of the divisions of the Red Army, then stationed in the Gomel province. Childhood was spent in the military garrison. Weapons, military equipment, battle horses - all this from an early age surrounded the boy, awakened a rich child's imagination. It is quite natural that Kolya liked the military profession since childhood. Little Kolya, following his father, will still have to travel around the country. He graduated from school in 1940 in Gzhatsk (now - Gagarin) of the Smolensk region. In the army since September 1940 in the 533rd anti-aircraft artillery regiment. His unit was stationed in Lvov. In November 1941 he graduated from the artillery school. In the battles of the Great Patriotic War since March 1942. First, he was the commander of a command platoon, then a battery, deputy and commander of an artillery battalion. He fought on the North-Western, 2nd Baltic and 1st Belorussian fronts, participated in the Berlin operation. In battles he was wounded three times, but returned to duty.
The division of the 940th artillery regiment under the command of Captain Nevsky in the summer of 1944 carried out artillery support when crossing the Vistula River. In battle, Nevsky was wounded, but continuing to carry out the tasks assigned by the command.
On February 21, 1945, Captain Nevsky was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
After the war, he continued to serve in the USSR Armed Forces. In 1953 he became a senior lecturer at the Military Artillery Command Academy, in the same year he became a candidate of military sciences, then commanded several artillery regiments. In 1982 he retired with the rank of colonel. He lived in Moscow, then in Leningrad.
