Minsk, Gomel, Grodno to become sister cities with Baku, Ganja, Gabala

BAKU, 16 May (BelTA) – Minsk, Gomel and Grodno are set to establish sister city relations with the Azerbaijani cities of Baku, Ganja and Gabala respectively. The corresponding memorandums were signed following the official talks between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on 16 May, BelTA has learned.

Sister cities are not just a status. The new format of cooperation will enable the cities to make the most of regional potential and ramp up contacts across the board.

Particular attention will be paid to joint projects in economy, urban planning, local government, transport and road infrastructure, housing, science, education, culture, preservation of historical and cultural heritage, healthcare, environmental protection, sports and tourism.

There are plans to establish closer contacts and develop interaction between industrial enterprises and companies, educational and scientific institutions, youth associations and creative unions, healthcare, cultural, sports and tourism organizations.
