Universities of Belarus, Uzbekistan sign 10 cooperation documents

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Universities of Belarus and Uzbekistan have signed 10 cooperation documents during the visit of the Belarusian government delegation to Tashkent, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Uzbekistan.
Bilateral talks were hosted by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan. Belarus was represented by Education Minister Igor Karpenko, Uzbekistan by Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education Abdukodir Toshkulov.
Taking part in the talks were heads of Belarusian higher learning institutions, including the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State Technological University, Piotr Masherov Vitebsk State University, Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, National Institute of Professional Education and National Institute of Higher Learning.
The Belarusian delegation will also hold talks with the ministers of preschool education and public education, and will visit higher learning and secondary educational institutions. The Education Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan have reconciled and plan to sign a joint action plan for 2021-2025.
About 200 direct agreements have already been signed between educational institutions and research facilities of the two countries. Belarus and Uzbekistan are running joint faculties and educational programs that offer two diplomas. The Belarus-Uzbekistan Interdisciplinary Institute of Applied Technical Qualifications opened in Tashkent. In addition, the establishment of an Uzbekistan-Belarus university of materials science is under consideration.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, about 2,000 citizens of Uzbekistan studied at educational institutions of Belarus. Belarus earned $1.7 million from providing educational services to Uzbekistan in 2020, an increase of almost 14% over 2019.
